CHECK LIST OF ARRIVAL PROCEDURES IN BRAZIL

With the main objective to facilitate the procedures with the Brazilian authorities at the arrival airports in Brazil, we are providing this check list of necessary actions to all competitors, referees and visitors to the WRTC 2006. We have built up a very strong relationship with the authorities at the airports: São Paulo, Guarulhos (GRU); Rio de Janeiro, Galeão, (RIO) and Florianópolis (FLN), they are committed to do their best to provide a swift Customs procedure and service to all WRTC2006 participants at the arrival to Brazil.

1) We are going to have a WRTC2006 representative at each of the above airports that is well connected with the authorities to solve problems that may occur at arrival, Customs clearance and transit. In due time we will give you their names and contact information.
2) We recommend all of you to make the check-in to your final destination (FLN). This will facilitate your connection procedure in Brazil. Note that the customs procedures will in all cases be at the first airport you arrive to.
3) We are enclosing an “ACCOMPANIED BAGGAGE DECLARATION, Non-resident” as well as your WRTC2006 ID-badge. The form is normally supplied by the airlines (so you can get a new one, if needed) we are providing this one, for your comfort. The form must be fully completed before disembarking. We highly encourage everyone to fill this form at home.
4) In addition to this form, we request that you prepare a separate List of Equipment for what you are bringing with you to the competition. Include: manufacturer, type of equipment, serial number, and price.
5) When the accumulated value of equipment is less than U$ 3.000,00 dollars you do not need to list the equipment in the “ACCOMPANIED BAGGAGE DECLARATION”, but we recommend that the List of Equipment is available all the time.
6) In case you are requested by the authorities, you must tell them that the equipment is for “your personal use” and specially brought for the WRTC2006 competition. “Used equipment”.
7) We are also attaching your WRTC2006 identification, please have this badge, visible attached to your jacket or shirt, you may identify other WRTC2006 participants and our representative and the authorities will see that you belong to “us”.
8) You must have with you, one of the official “Invitation Letters” we have mailed to you, advisable that you have some extra copies of this document as well. This letter shall be used at the Customs but you can use it at the Immigration, if needed.
9) Before landing you will have received an “Immigration Entry Card”, here you also can get another “ACCOMPANIED BAGGAGE DECLARATION”, please complete the Immigration Entry Card. One part of this you will keep and show at departure.
10) At the Immigration (Passport check) there are two lines, one for “Residents – Brazilians”, and other one for “Foreigners”. You must take the “Foreigners” line, with you passport open at the main photo page and also the “Immigration Entry Card”. Here they will check your VISA or you will get it if you carry a passport that does not need pre-arranged visa. NOTE: If you have a passport that requires pre-arranged visa. Make sure you have a Visa, we will not be able to fix it for you!
11) If the line is not too long this procedure will take no more than 20 minutes, good practice is to proceed quickly to the immigration line.
12) After the Immigration/passport control, you will pick up your luggage; your flight number will be indicating the location.
13) Before you pass customs, you have the opportunity to visit the “Duty Free Tax shop”. According to the Brazilian rules you are allowed to buy for up to U$ 500 per person.
14) After you have picked up all luggage and done your Tax-Free Shopping, you have to pass the Customs checking process. There are two lines: “Goods to Declare” and “Nothing to Declare”. If you have goods of less than U$ 3.000, you can go directly to “Nothing to Declare”/“Nada a Declarar”. This line is normally the longer one and you will get a “Red” or “Green” light that randomly pick those that will be checked. The majority gets the green light.
15) In case you get the “Red” light the inspector will request you to go to inspection and you must show him the “Invitation Letter” and the List of Equipment. Don’t forget to have your WRTC2006 badge (identification) clearly visible. The customs staff is aware about the WRTC2006 and they are requested to be agile in the process.
16) The majority of you will be passing without inspection and you should only give to the inspector the “ACCOMPANIED BAGGAGE DECLARATION “. If requested by the inspector you can give him a copy of the Equipment List and also a copy of the official Invitation Letter.
17) Now you will proceed to the Arrival area with your luggage. This is mandatory even if it is checked in to the final destination.
18) To take your onward connection you have to go to the Embarkation level, locate the check-in area of the airline you are booked on. We recommend that you to take the domestic flights and connections with TAM, but VARIG is an alternative. Here you check-in your luggage to your final destination, i.e. Florianopolis. If you are booked on an onward flight from the Domestic airport in São Paoulo, Congonhas (CGH) then you proceed to the Shuttle-Bus service that is located at the exit from the Arrival area.
19) If you have any problem at any moment, please contact our WRTC2006 representative at the airport.
20) If you have time, change to some Brazilian Real, there are banks and teller machines available. Preferably bring US$ or EUR in cash, you can change that later in Floripa (Florianopolis) to a more favorable rate (5-10%), this can NOT be done at the airport.

Welcome to Brazil and WRTC 2006!
